Bottle Book 10, '08
Bottle covered with papier mache'. Mixed-recycled materials adhered to the surface. Inside are words recycled from old cards and letters.

This piece comes from a question: What is your definiton of a "book"?

01,'09 Title (theme of the piece) "K" is Key 53

Recycled art, Altered Altoid tin 01, '09

This image shows the interior of the altered tin. Mixed materials, recycled. Difficult to see the old key hanging from the top, but it is there. Also on the right side, a man is tying a box closed. That image is surrounded with beads and miniature spatula and pepper grinder.

The left side interior has a wooden monkey juggling minature Japanese foods.

Below: Altered tin, "Wonderful Charm$, Just Looking"

Above, exterior top and bottom of the altered candy tin

This piece is made from a candy tin that I purchased while in Japan. I kept the original words that were on the tin, Wonderful Charms. Collaged onto the top are images of women who are refugees. Their eyes are haunting. On the inside I fixed a broken, round mirror and found the words in a magazine, "just looking". It seems that the women and the child below are just looking for help, or comfort of any kind.

When the viewer opens the top they see their own reflection, just looking.

I realize that although I feel compassion for people in such difficult situations, still, I am just looking and not doing anything to help change their situation in life.
