I'm home! And I am loving it. Ahhh, the weather here is incredible. I don't have to carry a towel around my neck to wipe away the sweat. I've stopped looking for the nearest air conditioner in each building and thinking of an excuse for why I have to stand in front of it with my arms out in the "soaring" postition. Living in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho with temperatures in the day only 87 degrees Farenheit and no humidity, evenings cool around 60 degrees; this is much kinder to my middle aged body.
Actually I have been home since Friday, July 4 at 11:30 PM. Funny thing about traveling from the other side of the earth, the human internal clock has to reset.
As I unpacked bags, told tales of the wonders of South Korea, the delightful people I met, and went through the piles of mail (make that bills) I found I was still on Korea time. Roughly, if it is 9:30 AM in Korea on Tuesday, it is 3:30 PM Monday in Coeur d' Alene. Therefore sleeping for six hours during the day and then working until 4:00 AM on my computer makes a bit of sense. It doesn't make for good family relationships however!
My internal clock seems to be catching up now. That will be good, very good.
In just a couple of days I will provide a link with my Flickr account. This will enable anyone viewing my blog to take a look at the photos I took while in S. Korea.
This blog will continue on throughout the rest of the summer. I will post information about various Korean folktales, interesting books and publications about Korea that I read, and some of the plans that I am formulating for future lessons with students in the fall. I will also be working on a presentation for teachers regarding some of the insights I have gained from my short teaching experience at Daeil International High School and visitation to one of the middle schools in Seoul, Korea.
I am home, but the memories and the opportunity to ponder each of the events of this incredible trip have just begun. Please contact me at any time regarding questions or comments that you might have. That is the purpose of a public blog, after all. I enjoy hearing from you.
