Daeil High School

In this photo you see me with Syd Golstien and two of the students from the class we taught!
The Korean students were so pleasant and kind. They treated us with a great deal of enthusiasm and respect. Syd taught a lesson about the electoral college. I taught my lesson on the Northwest Coastal Indians and their art forms. I read a story to them about "How Raven Stole the Sun."

When we left the bus at Daeil High School we were met by the High School students who would later take us to their homes to meet their families. They served as our hosts for the time we were in the high school. Here you can see me with a sign that was made for me by my new, young friend Jenny. She made me feel like I was very welcome to this remarkable school.

Here I am teaching the students in the German Class! I was reading them the story of Raven in preparation of the teaching of the art form used by the tribes that comprise the Northwest Coastal People. It is a very interactive story and so we had a great time with it.
Here I am with Jen. What a great person, and a brilliant student. We really clicked. She speaks amazing English and formerly lived in the United States for about a year. Now she is a sophomore in her school. When she was in the United States, Jen was a senior because she was so advanced.

Jen goes to school each day from 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM. She is one of the top students at her school and is studying to speak several languages besides English and her own native Korean.
She rides the bus 1 1/2 hours every day each way. When you add that up, she doesn't have much of a life outside of school. Yet, she is cheerful and kind and polite. I am not sure that I would have that kind of a demeanor if I worked as hard at studying!

My day at Daeil International High School was definately the highlight of my trip. And then getting to go with Jen to meet her mother and father was a great honor.
